Advanced Rug Tufting

You know the basics, now level up your skills by learning to incorporating varying pile heights and types, and learning how to professionally complete your piece with finishing and mounting techniques best suited to your work. 

Achieve 3-D textures, play with pile height and use mixed techniques through carving, trimming and hand tools to create a next level rug.

Learn to care for your gun, adjust pile height and type, troubleshoot common issues and replace and maintain trimmer blades.

Prerequisite: Students should have taken rug tufting basics or have previous experience with rug tufting.

Hours: 6:30 - 9:00 PM

Skill Level: This course is an intermediate-advanced course. The basics of tufting will not be covered to ensure that there is enough time to focus on the finishing process. 

Your Instructor: Our experienced textiles instructors are passionate about sharing their expertise and guiding you through the journey of skill development and creative exploration through textile art, craft and design. With a deep understanding of the medium, they provide personalised instruction and feedback to help you achieve your artistic goals.

This course is taught by: Beth Martin

Beth Martin is a fibre artist with a focus on subverting imagery and objects through the use of yarn, with an emphasis on elevating what is often thought of as a hobby medium. As an instructor, she builds her courses around feminism and accessibility as they relate to craft. Beth works primarily in rug tufting and crochet. 

Materials and Supplies: All materials are supplied. Participants are welcome to bring their own fabrics/fibres to use during the class.

HCS Facilities and Equipment: Hamilton Craft Studios’ well-equipped ceramics facilities are designed to facilitate a diverse range of ceramic work. Our spacious studio is equipped with pottery wheels, kilns, work tables, and other essential tools to support your creative journey.
