A good pair of pants is one of the most useful things you can make for yourself. In this five week course you will sew your own pants from start to finish, with step-by-step guidance and time to build your skills as you go.
The pant pattern is not gendered, looks great on everyone, with a relaxed fit, a mid rise and a slight taper at the hem. It has a drawstring waist with no fly, side pockets and back pockets. The look draws on Japanese workwear: simple, practical and easy to wear every day. Along the way you can adjust the design to suit you, including a wider leg, your preferred length and the pocket details.
The pattern covers a wide size range, fitting hip measurements from 32.7" to 60.2" (83 to 153 cm).
In this course, you will:
- Learn how to use a sewing machine with confidence
- Choose your pattern size and take accurate measurements
- Understand fabric types, grainlines and cutting techniques
- Read and work from a commercial sewing pattern
- Make simple design changes to the leg width, length and pockets
- Sew pockets, a drawstring waistband and clean seam finishes
You'll leave with:
- A finished pair of pants you've made yourself
- A pattern you can sew again in different fabrics and lengths
- A solid foundation to keep building skills on
Looking for fabric? Midweight wovens work well for this pant. Our fabric shop carries washed linen, sandwashed cotton, denim and cotton duck canvas.
