Textiles at HCS: Frequently Asked Questions
I’ve never sewn before. Where should I start?
If you’re brand new to sewing, we recommend starting with a course or workshop where you’ll have an instructor to guide you.
For a complete introduction to garment sewing, our 6-week Garment 1 course is designed specifically for beginners. You’ll learn how to read patterns, cut fabric, and use a sewing machine with confidence.
If you’re looking for a shorter commitment, our HCS Tote workshop is a great 4-hour beginner-friendly class that gets you hands-on quickly.
I’m not really into sewing. What else do you offer in Textiles?
Sewing is just one part of what we do. If you're interested in other textile techniques, we also offer:
-
Introduction to Weaving (2-hour workshop)
-
Rug Tufting Basics (4-session course)
-
Rotating workshops in embroidery, crochet, punch needle, and macramé, block printing
Whether you’re looking to explore a new craft or deepen your skills, there’s always something new happening in the studio.
Do you offer intermediate or advanced classes?
Absolutely.
-
Garment 2 is an intermediate course where you’ll work on a more complex project of your choice, with support from your instructor. You can take this course infinitely to continue to build your skillset in garment sewing.
